The Zanaco delegation, led by our Board Chairman, Prof. Oliver Saasa, on Thursday evening joined hundreds of people in witnessing the drumming of the Maoma royal drums by His Majesty Litunga Lubosi Imwiko II. The Maoma drumming marks the official start of the Kuomboka Ceremony, signalling the call to royal paddlers and the King’s subjects to prepare for the annual movement from the plains to higher ground.
A particularly proud and memorable moment for us was seeing Prof. Saasa take part in drumming the Maoma drum,a rare cultural honour that reflects the deep respect and connection shared with this timeless tradition.
We also joined this year’s Kuomboka Ceremony, led by our Board Chairman Prof. Oliver Saasa, as the Litunga made the iconic journey from the rising waters of Lealui to the high lands of Limulunga – a powerful reminder of resilience, transition and the deep cultural identity of the Lozi people. The event was graced by President Hakainde Hichilema which was attended by thousands, once again standing as a unifying national moment.
