What is the Zanaco Digital Embedded Insurance?

The Zanaco Digital Embedded Insurance proposition offers two types of insurance cover to all eligible Xapit Account Holders; Hospital Cash Plan and Death benefit.

  • Hospital Cash Plan benefit provides a “daily financial benefit” of K350 to cushion customers against financial risks associated with being hospitalized.
  • Death benefit provides K10,000 on death of the account holder.
Who is covered under this policy?

This policy is open to Xapit Account Holders who are between the ages of 16 years to 70 years and are residents of Zambia.

How do I qualify for the Zanaco Digital Embedded Insurance?

One must pay their account maintenance fees in full every month to qualify for the insurance cover.

What are the insurance cover benefits available on the policy?
  • A daily financial benefit of K350 to the account holder after hospitalization as an inpatient for at least 48 hours (two days)
  • A death benefit of K10,000 payable on death of the account holder
  • The policy pays for a maximum of 30 days per claim event or calendar year.
How much does Digital Embedded Insurance cost?

The account holder only pays minimal premium of K5 for a daily hospitalization and death benefit.

How does the claims process work?

In the event of a hospitalization claim, the customer (insured) shall:

a. Fill in a claim form with supporting documents
b.Provide identification documents (i.e. valid passport, driver’s license or National Registration Card)
c. Provide proof of hospitalization such as a signed discharge form from a registered health care provider registered with the Health Professions Council of Zambia (HPCZ)
d. Submit the claim to Prudential at [email protected]

In the event of a death claim, the processing of claim will start when the insurer has received the following documents:

a. A completed claim form obtained from any Prudential Life Assurance Zambia Limited Office or Zanaco Branch
b. Proof of identity of Policyholder e.g. copy of NRC or passport
c. The identification for the claimant e.g. copy of NRC or Passport Number
d. Proof that the insured event happened e.g. The Proof of Death Document such as Death Certificate, Brought in Dead (BID) certificate, Medical Certificate for Cause of Death (MCCD), a Letter from the Village Chief, etc.
e. A police report for accidental deaths
f. A burial permit

What happens in the event that maintenance fees are not paid in full by the customer?

In the event that the account balance is insufficient to pay account maintenance fees in full in a particular month, you will not qualify to access the benefits stated in that month and no claim will be paid in the event of hospitalization or death of the account holder.

Are there specific health institutions which are excluded for purposes of this policy?

The following institutions are excluded: Psychiatric hospitals, traditional doctors, rehabilitation centres for drug addicts or alcoholics, convalescence homes, hydrotherapy centres, nature cure clinics or institutions for the blind, deaf, dumb or handicapped.

 What are the specific EXCLUSIONS applicable to the Policy?
  •  Illegal or criminal acts
  • Attempted suicide or any self-inflicted injury occurring within two years of the inception of the policy whether the person assured is sane or insane
  • Any act committed by the Person Assured, which constitutes a violation of criminal law
  • Bodily injury sustained whilst under the influence of intoxicating liquor or drugs or disablement due wholly or partly to the effects of intoxicating liquor or drugs other than in accordance with treatment prescribed and directed by a qualified, resisted medical practitioner but not for the treatment of drug addiction
  • The result of any insurrection, civil commotion, war, invasion, act of foreign enemy, hostilities, civil war, rebellion, revolution, military or usurped power or hostile action of the armed forces of any country
  • Any investigation, operation or treatment undergone solely for cosmetic purposes (other than reconstruction after a mastectomy or plastic surgery following injury or burns) or for obesity (whether carried out for psychological reasons or not)
  • The pregnancy or confinement within twelve months of the commencement of the policy
  • Active participation in dangerous sports and recreation activities including mountaineering, horse riding, hunting, motor-racing or hand-to-hand combat (except in self-defense)
  • Dental Care unless necessitated by injury caused by an accident
